You need the sword, but you can't have it drawn. Has to be in the scabbard so your hands are free to pick up the key.

Don't let them! You have a phone right? If strangers are touching you in trains take a photo of them and say you'll print this out and hand it to people at the station. If they are your friends and you don't like it, just tell them so... or kick them in the balls. That usually does it.
